On 23 November, MINEX Eurasia 2018, London’s premier annual mining event focused on Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia took place at the headquarters of London law firm, Simmons & Simmons. Established in 2012, MINEX Eurasia Mining and Exploration Forum is the key London event for companies looking to invest in mining and mining supply chain companies operating in Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia.
The event attracted around 200 senior executives, financiers and government officials to discuss some of the most topical business, financial and geopolitical challenges surrounding the mining industry in the region today.
The event was led off with a thought-provoking talk by Steven Rudofsky of Talex Commodities in which he explained why he has not done a deal in Eurasia in the past ten years.
Ongoing privatisation efforts in Mongolia; the launch of the new Mining Code in Kazakhstan; financing for Eurasian mining projects; and perception management in the mining industry are among the topics being addressed at MINEX Eurasia 2018. In addition to being a key source of business intelligence, MINEX Eurasia offered delegates the opportunity to network with a select group of industry insiders, typically senior executives, partners and directors from private equity, family firms, venture capital firms, senior and junior miners, mining supply chain companies, and mining industry-orientated business services companies. Furthermore, the Department of International Trade this year brought delegations from both Kazakhstan and Mongolia comprising senior representatives of some of the regional mining industry’s key players and officials.
Ambassadors and senior ministry officials from Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan provided a snapshot of privatisation efforts and state reforms of the mining sector in their respective countries.
